Behavioral & mental health billing
Behavioral & mental health billing,
without the denials.
Therapy billing looks simple until the denials start: time-based codes, telehealth rules, carve-out plans and session limits. We handle the rules so your clinicians can stay with their clients.
What makes it hard
Where behavioral & mental health revenue gets lost.
Time-based codes
Psychotherapy codes (90832, 90834, 90837) depend on documented session time. Start and stop times that don't match the code are a common audit and denial trigger.
Carve-out payers
Many health plans hand behavioral health to a separate managed behavioral health organization, with its own eligibility, authorization and claims address.
Telehealth rules
Place of service and modifier requirements (for example POS 02 or 10, modifier 95) differ by payer and change often.
Authorizations and visit limits
Payers often cap sessions or require authorization after an initial number of visits, and sessions past the limit are denied.
Credentialing for every license type
LCSWs, LPCs, LMFTs, psychologists and psychiatrists are each credentialed separately, and some payers don't enroll every license type.
How we handle it
Checks built into every claim.
Our team and the GetMax platform apply these checks before claims go out, not after the denial comes back.
- Eligibility checks that identify the behavioral health carve-out before the first session
- Session counts and authorization limits tracked per client
- Code and time checks before every claim goes out
- Telehealth place-of-service and modifier rules applied by payer
- Credentialing and payer enrollment for every clinician license type
Frequently asked
Questions we hear a lot.
What is the difference between 90834 and 90837?
Both are individual psychotherapy codes. 90834 is used for sessions of about 45 minutes (38 to 52 minutes) and 90837 for about 60 minutes (53 minutes or more). The documented time must support the code billed.
Do you bill for group practices with many clinicians?
Yes. We bill for solo therapists and multi-clinician groups, including credentialing each clinician with the payers you accept.
Can you bill telehealth sessions?
Yes. We apply each payer's telehealth place-of-service and modifier rules so telehealth claims go out right the first time.
